I had an amazing journey that started with a visit to the American Airlines Flagship Dining Room at DFW, followed by a stop at the Etihad First & Business Class Lounge at LHR. I then boarded the Etihad A380 First Class Apartments for a flight from LHR to AUH. Despite the jetlag and lack of sleep, the experience was incredible.
During the flight, I used the inflight internet to book a room at the St. Regis Abu Dhabi. I’d heard good things about their hotels and the cash rate was surprisingly reasonable for such a luxurious place. Unfortunately, due to the way I booked my ticket, I wasn’t eligible for Etihad’s chauffeur service. So, I took a cab to the St. Regis, which was a bit of a bummer.
The St. Regis Abu Dhabi was breathtaking. The foyer was the most amazing I’ve ever seen, with columns supporting the staircases that were three or four stories tall. Everything was enormous, regal, and tastefully done. The symmetry, a common feature in Islamic architecture, was also quite noticeable.
I was quickly checked in and upgraded to a suite. The room was fantastic, with a perfect view and a feeling of spaciousness beyond its 700 square feet. The view from the sitting area was absolutely amazing. I even received a welcome gift from SPG – a bowl of fruit and some chocolates.
The hotel was so beautiful that I decided to explore it a bit more. Even the elevator landing area was gorgeous. I also found a side room off the main foyer that was one of the most amazing spaces I’ve seen.
Although I didn’t stay at the hotel for very long, the experience was worth it. I’m looking forward to coming back to Abu Dhabi to visit the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque and revisit this amazing place. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by just to see the foyer!
