An Insider’s Look at the Park Hyatt Washington: A Guest Review

Mark, a travel enthusiast and savvy deal hunter, recently embarked on a trip to Washington DC with his girlfriend. They took advantage of a cheap fare from American Airlines and decided to stay at the luxurious Park Hyatt Washington DC. Mark’s previous experiences at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome and the Park Hyatt Dubai had set high expectations, and he was eager to see how the DC branch would compare.

In the past, Mark had stayed at the Grand Hyatt Washington, a decent hotel, but he had always been drawn to the Park Hyatt. However, the price difference was significant, with the Grand Hyatt’s rates around $150 and the Park Hyatt’s rates often exceeding $300. This time, Mark found a fantastic deal for a Park Deluxe King room at the Park Hyatt for just $199 per night. But it got even better. Mark discovered an even lower rate for a Park Executive Suite on the AA.com hotel portal. Using his knowledge of the Hyatt loyalty program, he submitted a Best Rate Guarantee request to Hyatt, and they matched the lower rate and took an additional 20% off. This landed him a three-night stay in a Park Executive Suite for just $159 per night.

Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by the front desk clerk who informed them that as a Diamond member, they could enjoy complimentary breakfast either in their room or at the hotel’s restaurant, The Blue Duck Tavern. When Mark mentioned they would have friends visiting, the clerk kindly adjusted their reservation to accommodate four guests at no extra charge. This was a pleasant surprise, considering breakfast at such places can easily cost $30-$40 per person.

The suite was impressive, boasting a 15-foot long couch and a stunning bathroom. They were so comfortable that they decided to have dinner at the hotel lounge on their first night, although they felt the $22 hamburger was a bit overpriced. Over the next few days, they enjoyed breakfast in their room and at The Blue Duck Tavern with their friends. The total breakfast charges, including taxes and tips, came to around $350, all of which were waived from the final bill due to Mark’s Diamond status.

The only hiccup during their stay was the fire alarm going off twice on Saturday. The first time, they were evacuated to the Fairmont across the street for about half an hour. Later that night, they returned to find the fire truck back at the hotel due to a fire on the roof caused by a grease build-up in the kitchen’s exhaust fan. Despite this minor inconvenience, Mark was not too bothered, considering the great deal he had on the room rate.

All in all, Mark had a fantastic weekend at the Park Hyatt Washington DC and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again given the opportunity.
