Alright, let’s dive into my experience at the Peninsula Hotel. I’ve already shared about the Rolls Royce airport pickup, the afternoon tea, and how I made the most of the hefty price tag. Now, let’s talk about the hotel itself.
First off, I apologize for the quality of my photos from the Peninsula. I usually take pride in my property photos, but these didn’t quite hit the mark.
Checking In
The check-in process was a breeze. As soon as I arrived in the Rolls, a valet opened the door for me. A friendly staff member was waiting to welcome me, introduce himself, and inform me that my room was ready and I’d been upgraded to a higher floor. He then escorted me directly to my room to complete the check-in.
In-room check-ins are always a nice touch, and the Peninsula’s grandeur made it feel unique.
The Room
My room, 2501, was near the elevator, but noise wasn’t an issue. The room was a deluxe one on a higher floor, but it didn’t face Victoria Harbour, which was a bit of a bummer. The view was still great, though.
The bed was firm, but the pillows were probably the best I’ve ever slept on. The room was well-equipped with cabinets, closets, a desk area, and a vanity area with a pop-up mirror. There were also a variety of amenities, including a nice coffee and tea station.
The TV was huge and could be hidden away in a cabinet. My room had a small hallway leading to the bathroom, which gave it a suite-like feel. The decor was frequent and well-placed, adding to the value of the stay.
The bathroom was spacious and reminded me of the one at the St. Regis Abu Dhabi.
Technology
What I loved most about the Peninsula was the thoughtful use of technology. There were touchpads instead of switches to control various aspects of the room, inputs for watching your own content on the TV or listening to your own audio, and tablets that controlled your entire hotel experience. The technology was effective, useful, and smartly placed.
The Pool and Gym
The pool at the Peninsula had a great view of Victoria Harbour. However, photography wasn’t allowed. The gym was impressive and had a sun deck for yoga classes with a great view of the Harbour.
The Property
The Peninsula’s lobby was massive and decorated in a colonial theme. It felt regal without being overbearing.
Breakfast at The Peninsula
I received a complimentary breakfast through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts. The buffet had a decent variety of dishes cooked really well, and there was an omelette station.
What I Missed
I didn’t get a chance to visit the top-level bar, Felix, but I highly recommend it.
Overall Thoughts
Staying at the Peninsula was expensive, but the service was polished, the property was immaculate, and everything felt tailored to me. The breakfast was great, the afternoon tea was fun, and the Rolls Royce airport transfer was phenomenal. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience at a legendary hotel.
